But why May 31st?
If you are like me and love
connections/Easter Eggs, read on...
1. Last day of Mer-may! Best time to release a book about mermaids.
2. The 31st is a FULL MOON. Freshwater Tails are mermaids of the moon and full moons strengthen and power their magic to its fullest potential.
3. The 31st is also a BLUE MOON, a term derived from modern folklore that has often been misinterpreted, which is usually what happens with tales of folklore, or in this case Tails of folklore.
4. It is an old belief that blue moons come from an interpretation of an Old English word BELEWE or BELU, which means betray, because the extra full moon betrayed the lunar calendars and confused religious events, and in Freshwater Tails, betrayal is a theme that runs throughout the book.
5. The monthly Blue Moon is the 13th full moon of the year. It gets messy, but basically, it only comes around every 2 to 3 years, which is about how long it has taken me to plubish my second book and the old idiom, "Once in a Blue Moon" can refer to me publishing a book. Sorry, it is taken me longer than expected.
6. The calendar month blue moon is when there are two full moons in one month. There are a lot of symbolism and themes of twos and doubles in Freshwater Tails.
7. A true Blue Moon in color is rare. Just like my female main character, IMOGEN who is a pure Aquamarine-Tail, which is a shade of blue, but also, there is something about Imogen that makes her especially rare...
